85 YEARS.png

The year is 1941; the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor and America finds itself at war.  As an eastern seaboard town, Brunswick citizens find themselves contributing to the war effort while concerned that Brunswick is ripe for attack from German u-boats.  To these ends, the Brunswick community achieves the improbable by building over 100 liberty ships.  The Glynco Naval Air Station becomes the largest blimp airfield in the nation, and patrols coastal waters in search of the enemy.

Realizing that “in time of war, everything that builds and strengthens morale is vital” a group of Brunswick’s leading citizens launch the Brunswick Community Concert Association.  In doing so, the horrors of war are briefly transformed to a night of fun for the community and the entertainers.

In the ensuring eight decades, the association continually brings world-class entertainment to Brunswick and the Golden Isles.   Thus, our community is gifted with performances by major U.S. symphonies, the New York Theatre Ballet, Fred Waring, Ferrante & Teicher, the Moscow Boys Choir, Glen Miller and many other US and international artists.

In 2013 the association changes its name to “Golden Isles Live!”, but continues with the tradition of bringing live performances to our community, missing only the three recent pandemic years.

Countless studies show that music adds vibrancy to communities, stimulates and strengthens sense of connection among audiences and boosts the physical and emotional health of participants.   For 83 years, Golden Isles Live! has counted on our community to support the concerts instead of asking for government funding.   Income from single and season tickets covers the entertainers costs.   However, other costs, including the student outreach program are covered by our patrons and business sponsors.  We urge you to take center stage as one of these!
